Antique medal in platinum, pearls and diamonds
Delightful Art Deco period (1915-1935) antique medal in platinum, presumed fine pearls and diamonds. Diamond-shaped with rounded edges, it depicts the Virgin Mary in profile, haloed by diamonds. She is surrounded by small pearls presumed to be fine. It is engraved on the back with the initials "A B" or "B A". Early French work, signed by the engraver Guilbert.
Ernest Guilbert (1848-1920) studied at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts, and was a pupil of Henri Chapu (1833-1891), sculptor and engraver. E. Guilbert is notably the author of numerous bronze sculptures and works visible in public spaces, including four listed by France's general inventory of cultural heritage.
