Antique medal of the Virgin Mary in yellow gold, two blue enamels, mother-of-pearl and supposedly fine pearls
Antique medal of the Virgin Mary in yellow gold, two blue enamels, mother-of-pearl and supposedly fine pearls
Magnificent antique medal (circa 1900) in 18ct yellow gold (750/1000th). Round in shape, it features a central mother-of-pearl engraving of the Virgin Mary in profile, surrounded by blue plique-a-jour enamels (two different blues) and small pearls presumed to be fine. Antique French work, rare and sought-after, the medal has a beautiful volume.
The medal is sold without a chain, but we can add one on request.
Plique-a-jour is a technique for applying enamel, without a base, so that light can filter through the transparent or translucent enamel. The effect is that of a miniature stained-glass window, but it's a difficult technique to achieve.
Condition: Very good, a very small lack of enamel in the upper right corner of the virgin.
Weight: 4,67grs
Diameter without clasp: approx. 2.80cm
Length with clasp: approx. 4cm
